Sacred Sites of the Ramayana in Sri Lanka

On arrival at the airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your chauffer guide at the airport arrival lounge & you will proceed to Kandy.

En-route visit Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is a wild Asian elephant orphanage, nursery, and captive breeding site located in Pinnawala village, Sabaragamuwa Province, Sri Lanka, 13 kilometers (8.1 miles) northeast of Kegalle town. Pinnawala boasts the world's largest captive elephant herd. The orphanage was established to care for and safeguard the many orphaned and unweaned wild elephants found wandering around Sri Lanka's forests. The Sri Lanka Department of Wildlife Conservation founded it in 1975. At the moment, more than 80 elephants have been born at the Pinnawala elephant orphanage.

On completion visit Spice Garden in Mawanella. Visit a spice garden to see the many various types of spices for which Sri Lanka is famous.  You'll learn about various spices and be shown how some of them are farmed and prepared. In the area, a processing and training unit has been established, and farmers have formed a cooperative to assure fair prices. Spices will also be available for purchase. Visitors are welcome to stroll through the gardens, which are a great place to learn about nutmeg, pepper plants, clove trees, curry, cinnamon, and the valuable cardamom, a relative of ginger.

Enjoy city tour in Kandy. Explore Kandy City, Sri Lanka's administrative and religious capital, which is surrounded by gorgeous mountain ranges. It was Sri Lanka's final capital during the reign of the ancient rulers. Kandy is one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Sri Lanka and the world, as it houses the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. one of the Buddhist world's most revered places of worship In 1988, UNESCO designated it as a world historic site. Historically, the local Buddhist kings have fought colonial expansion and occupation by the Portuguese, Dutch, and British.

Then proceed to Nuwara Eliya. En-route visit Ramboda Falls. Ramboda Falls is the 11th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and the 729th highest waterfall in the world, standing at 109 meters (358 feet). It is located in the Pussellawa area of Ramboda, on the A5 highway. Panna Oya, which is a tributary of Kothmale Oya, formed it. It is twinned with Dunsinane Falls, which is formed by Pundalu Oya, another tributary of the Kothmale River, and forms a Y shape at the base.

Visit The Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple in Ramboda. The Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple is one of Sri Lanka's most important Hanuman Temples. The temple is devoted to the God Hanuman and is one of Sri Lanka's most prominent Ramayana Trail stops. This Hanuman Temple was built in 1999, and it is claimed that Hanuman was looking for Sita Devi. There are still some Ramayana facts in this area, such as a village called "Ravana Goda," which is close to this Bhakta Hanuman Temple.

Thereafter visit Tea Factory and Tea Plantation. With its beautiful lush green tea estates, Nuwara Eliya is Sri Lanka's most well-known tea-growing district. You must visit Sri Lanka's amazing tea plantations and learn about tea production while there. So, if you're visiting Nuwara Eliya, you should definitely visit the tea estates there.

In the evening enjoy Nuwara Eliya City Tour. Nuwara Eliya is sometimes known as Sri Lanka's Little England. This village's climate, environment, and architecture are distinct from those of neighboring settlements. It is the most important place for tea growing in Sri Lanka due to its cooler environment.   • Thereafter visit The Sri Seetha Amman temple. According to the Epic Ramayana, Seetha was kidnapped and concealed at this location by King Rama to protect her from the evil king Ravana. The brook nearby is thought to be where Sita washed, and the rock beside it is thought to be where she sat praying. Circular depressions on the rock face across the creek are thought to represent the footprints of Rawana's elephant. There's a point in the stream where the water can't be sipped, and legend has it that Sita cursed it, giving it a terrible taste.
  • Then visit Gayathri Peedam. The Sri-Lankatheeswarar Temple, also known as the Gayathri Cathedral, was the first temple dedicated to Goddess Gayathri. This location was chosen by Gayathri Siddhar because it was a spiritual epiphany. When prince Meganath, also known as Indrajit, son of an ancient Sri Lankan King Ravana, performed Siva Thapas and Nikumbala Yagna, it is said that the Tri Moortis – Siva, Brahma, and Vishnu – came here. As a result, Gayathri Peedam is an essential stop on Sri Lanka's Ramayana Trail.
  • Finally visit Ashoka Vatika before departure for Colombo. As recounted in the Vishnu Purana and the Hindu epic Ramayana of Valmiki, and all later versions, including the Ramacharitamanas authored by Tulsidas, where it is mentioned in the Sundar Kand, Ashok Vatika was a garden in Lanka that was located in the dominion of the Rakshasa king Ravana. It was here that Ravana held Sita, Rama's wife, hostage following her kidnapping, partly because she refused to stay in Ravana's castle and instead chose to stay under the shimshapa tree in Ashoka Vatika.
  • Proceed to Bentota/ Beruwala & en-route visit St. Clair's & Devon Falls. St. Clair's Falls, sometimes known as the "Little Niagara of Sri Lanka," is one of Sri Lanka's largest waterfalls. St. Clairs Falls is located along the Kotmale oya, a tributary of the Mahaweli River, and is near to Devon Falls. Devon Falls, also known as the 'Veil of the Valley,' is a Sri Lankan waterfall located on the A7 highway 6 kilometers west of Talawakele in the Nuwara Eliya District. The falls were named for Devon, a pioneer English coffee grower whose property was near the falls. The waterfall is 97 meters (318 feet) tall, making it the country's 19th highest.

The Madu Ganga estuary is a 915-hectare complex coastal wetland environment that opens to the Indian Ocean. It is a lagoon that is comparatively pristine.
